Great day again, 320 km ((the yellow track on the map), the ususal 09 o'clock start from Amesbury, visiting another great stone circle in Avesbury, to Marlborough. Moving West and than South, crossing the river Avon several times...Coffee, or more or less a 'lunch break' at the Strode Arms in Cranmore. Proceeding via Trowbridge, Frome and Shepton Mallet to the great Fleet Air Arm museum in Yeoville. Found a place stay very quickly this time just north of Weymouth in Aprils Cottage in Nottington. Quick look around in the surroundings of Weymouth Bay (near Preston) and this time finding it hard to locate the strongly recommended Inn for a dinner. Decided on an excellent alternative nearby... |
|
Another magical site, Avebury Henge with a very spectacular, wide stone circle...
Luck was with us again after arriving late in Stonehenge yesterday, avoiding the crowds, we were early in Avebury; just before the guides woke up and the touring cars started poring in ... Again... tourist oriented but managing well to keep things 'balanced'... Too bad only that a busy road is crossing the the circle... |

Images above; moving on in time... if only a few hundred years; coffee and cake lunch brake in the very nice pub in Cranmore; the Strode Arms |
||
Moving in time again... visit to the fantastic Fleet Air Arm Museum in Yeovilton; great collection and the stories are told well... enjoy the carrier experience, it's worth your while... |

Moving from Yeovilton to Weymouth to find a place to stay for the night. The characteristic British 'Fish & Chips' signs and... some architecture which make you either bow in respect, laugh or cry... the Weymouth Bay Riviera Hotel referring to the Roman history of the Preston area. | ||
No end to the variety of places we find to stay the night... this time the owners of 200 years old Aprils Cottage in Nottington near Weymouth
provide us with a great welcome and hospitality. B&B at very fair
rates considering that this house if for rent in the summer for prices
around£1,400 per week... But for this price it houses up to 3 families in a very characteristic interior... |
