Wednesday 18 October 2023, autumn afternoon stroll Leemkuil route (9km, province of Utrecht), more or less the ‘yellow route‘.
Nice route in the beautiful ‘Utrechtse Heuvelrug’. There are various parking opportunities (and public transport stops) and thus a variety of starting points available as well as many other hiking routes in the area. We started our hike at the ‘Tabaksschuur’ visitor centre of Utrechts Landschap. It’s worth a visit but note the limited opening times. In the old days the area was famous as the place to be in The Netherlands for tobacco plantations so there is a museum on that topic nearby. The forest and hills-route is relatively easy going, can obviously be muddy in some places. The area is well known for many different mushrooms as well, so autumn is especially interesting. Route indications (yellow) are fine.
