Wednesday, 1 April 2015, Fort(ress) Kijkduin route near Den Helder (Huisduinen) in the Province of Noord-Holland, Wandelroute boek nr. 56; approximately 6 kilometers. Folowing a visit to Fort Kijkduin – recommended to really appreciate the turbulent history of this area we’ve hiked this trail. Very easy trail as most of it runs through the outskirts of the City of Den Helder. Frankly speaking, not too interesting although the lighthouse (Lange Jan) is impressive as are the view at the remarkable buildings (fortresses as well) of the Dutch Navy… (Den Helder is the base of the Dutch Marine)…Fortunately it all ends well with a nice stretch of sand-dunes south of Huisduinen before you return to Fort Kijkduin…
